E. Coli Hits Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (CMG) Once More

Just when Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE:CMG) investors thought that the E- coli scare may have finished wreaking havoc on the company’s stock, and shares began to recover, yet another E. coli scare has just pushed the stock down again this afternoon. The CDC is investigating a more recent outbreak of a different strain of E- coli which is being linked once more to Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE:CMG). According to the CDC there have been five new cases of E. coli identified in three states, Oklahoma, North dakota and Kansas. These individuals were first identified between November 18 an November 26. This new information comes on the heels of Chipotle,” founder and co-CEO Steve Ells stating the following last week on CNBC:

“I will say though, that we can assure you today that there is no E. coli in Chipotle. We have thoroughly tested our food, we have thoroughly tested our surfaces and we are confident that Chipotle is a safe place to eat.”

It appeared as if the scare had finally passed by as shares were trading at over $576 just last Thursday. The stock has fallen 4.19% or $22.67 following this negative news, hitting $518.41 per share. About 1.68 million shares traded hands or 7.69% up from the average. CMG has declined 14.94% since May 18, 2015 and is downtrending. It has underperformed the S&P500 by 12.67%.
