In a patent filed in July of 2014, but just made public now, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has described technologies which would allow an iPhone to self-heal, either at night when a user sleeps, or a more convenient time. An example given by the company in their patent filing would deal with a wet speaker by waiting for a user to get into a loud room (think a bar or a concert) and then emit a special tone which would expel the liquid from the speaker. This may even be something that the company is working on for the iPhone 7 which reportedly will be waterproof.
Another example of the technology that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) provided in their filing would allow the iPhone to fix dead pixels by cycling itself through a screen diagnostic schedule automatically while the user sleeps. Since such cycling can take several hours, the user won’t have to have their phone sitting idle while they need it for daily use. While this patent, like many from the company, may never be put to use, it seems likely that such technology could very well make it into future devices.
