Trump’s Latest Tweet is a Slap in His Own Face and He Doesn’t Even Realize it

After a 36+ hour absence from Twitter following several announcements which have reportedly driven President Donald Trump into tantrum mode, he has returned to his favorite pastime this morning. Tweeting at just before 8:00 AM ET, Trump sent the following message to his 29.7 million followers:

“With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special counsel appointed!”

While this is again all apparent hearsay, the real irony here is the fact that if Trump wanted to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, and if there were really crimes committed, he could quite easily do so. The law, as it has been established, allows for the United States Attorney General, who in this case is Jeff Sessions, to appoint a special prosecutor if he deems it necessary.

In fact, during Trump’s campaign he stated, “If I win, I am going to instruct my Attorney General to get a special prosecutor to look into your (Hillary Clinton) situation because there has never been so many lies, so much deception. There has never been anything like it, and we’re going to have a special prosecutor.”

So if Trump really feels as though Clinton and Obama were breaking the law, why hasn’t he asked Jeff Sessions to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate those matters? There are only two feasible answers here:

1) He has asked Sessions to do so, but Sessions has refused based on the lack of evidence that a crime was committed.
2) He knows there was no crimes committed and this is just another one of his conspiracy theories in line with his “voter fraud” claims and Obama “birther” claim.

It takes a lot to convince an acting Attorney General to feel as though a special counsel is warranted, and in Trump’s case with Jeff Sessions recusing himself from the Russia investigation, Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein felt compelled enough to name former F.B.I. Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to look into the Trump campaign’s possible interactions with Russia. That compelling evidence which exists in the case of the Trump/Russia investigation, just isn’t there to point to any crimes that Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama may have committed.

This is just more baseless finger pointing at Clinton and Obama by Trump, perhaps in order to again divert some media attention.
