After eight years in the White House, I couldn’t even begin to imagine the amount of stress one must go through. While President Obama always seemed cool, calm and collective, even during the raid on Bin Laden’s hideout in Pakistan, I’m sure a vacation was well in order.
While the Obama’s have been on an extended vacation, paid for by themselves, the right-leaning news organization, Fox News, has attacked the former President for his long ‘luxury’ vacation. A Fox News report stated that “The Democratic base is growing increasingly frustrated with former President Barack Obama’s actions after leaving office, including a seemingly endless tour of millionaire and billionaire luxury retreats, according to Democrats and activists contacted by Fox News.”
Fox cites the fact that he has been staying at resorts such as Marlon Brando’s private island, Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island, and a Four Seasons in Bali, where rooms cost upwards of $2,000 a night. It’s rather ironic to see this story considering Fox rarely talks about President Trump’s $2 million weekends at his own Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, or the bill that Melania Trump ran up each week while staying at Trump Tower in NYC with son Barron. These stays cost nearly 500 times that of Obama’s Four Seasons stay, and to make matters worse, we, the taxpayers are paying for them.
Fox then had the nerve to quote Dr. David Michael Smith of the Houston Socialist Movement, who stated that “Obama is not as wealthy or as conservative as Trump, George W. Bush, or George H.W. Bush, but he enjoys what used to be called “the lifestyle of the rich and famous”.
He’s not as conservative as Trump, the man who sits on a plated gold toilet at his Trump Tower Penthouse? Yeah, sure!
Meanwhile, President Obama has recently donated $2 million to help young people in his home town of Chicago get apprenticeships and summer jobs. He could stay in a Four Seasons Resort in Bali for the next 3 years or so for that price.
While yes, the President is taking an extended vacation that is certain to make any world traveler a bit jealous, since when has Fox News cared about what the wealthy do with their own money? Is this now a new Republican ideology?
