Just yesterday we reported that Trump and his staff were looking into just how much pardoning power he actually has as President of the United States — perhaps a move that signals that he knows that the situation he currently is in will require such power to avoid imprisonment. It was said that he was investigating his ability to pardon those within his administration as well as himself, should a situation arise that requires such action.
This morning, President Trump himself pretty much confirmed that he has in fact looked into his ability to pardon. In a tweet at 7:35 AM ET he wrote:
“While all agree the U. S. President has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is LEAKS against us.FAKE NEWS”
The other interesting part to this statement is the fact that he said “when only crime so far is LEAKS”. Doesn’t the inclusion of the words “so far” mean that he thinks more evidence of further crimes will be coming soon? If President Trump didn’t believe any crimes were committed by himself or his administration, why not just say, “when the only crime is LEAKS”, and leave “so far” out of it?
It’s obvious at this point that President Trump realizes that his pardoning power might be needed at some point in the near future. He is seemingly scared to death what the Mueller investigation will unearth.
