As multiple investigations into the Trump campaign’s collusion with Russia continue to pick up steam, the President seems to be doing everything that any good attorney would advise a client not to do. Besides tweeting what could be considered incriminating statements, the President continues to directly name-call and personally attack those in charge of such investigations.
Trump has already fired FBI Director James Comey, and then attacked Special Counsel Robert Mueller for what he claims are multiple conflicts of interest. This morning, however, he turned his attention to House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member, Adam Schiff.
“Sleazy Adam Schiff, the totally biased Congressman looking into “Russia,” spends all of his time on television pushing the Dem loss excuse!” Trump Tweeted this morning.
Within only a few minutes Schiff, who is second-in-command of the House investigation into Trump’s possible collusion with Russia, responded as follows:
“With respect Mr. President, the problem is how often you watch TV, and that your comments and actions are beneath the dignity of the office.”
Schiff, who is a Democrat representing California’s 28th Congressional District, has been one of Trump’s harshest critics as he investigates possible wrongdoings by his campaign. In the past, he has criticized the President’s personal attacks on Americans, and his lack of response to Russia’s obvious meddling in the 2016 election.
“Trump’s quicker to attack Americans who disagree with him than stand up to adversaries abroad. What happened to America First?” Schiff asked last month.
As Trump is backed further and further into a corner, his attacks on those investigating him will likely grow stronger. Such attacks, however, will not in any way slow down an investigation. Instead it appears as if Trump’s tweets and statements have been pushing things forward at a faster pace than perhaps they would have been moving if he remained silent.
