, Inc. (AMZN) to Compete with Intel (INTC) in the Computer Chip Space?

Ok, perhaps not, but, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) will at least cause Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC) to take a step back and perhaps blink an eye with their latest announcement via their subsidiary Annapurna Labs.

Back in January of last year, it was announced that, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) had acquired chip maker, Annapurna Labs for somewhere between $350 and $375 million. Now it appears we know the reason.

Late yesterday, it was announced that Amazon’s Annapurna Labs will begin marketing their computer chips and related components — targeting customers who design equipment such as data storage devices, media-streaming devices and Wi-Fi routers. The line of chips is called “Alpine” and the semiconductors are based on designs from ARM Holdings Plc.

While not certain, it is possible that this move will allow Amazon to put at least a slight dent into Intel Corp.’s (NASDAQ:INTC) dominance (and I could say semi-monopoly) that they have on data-center infrastructure.
