McDonald’s Corporation (MCD) to Roll Out Eco-Friendly Packaging in 36,000 Stores Worldwide


While the environment is important to most of us, there is not a whole lot we can do on an individual basis to make a major impact. With that said, companies like McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) have a tremendous amount of power to make a differerence, and that’s just what they are doing today.

In an announcement made this morning the world’s largest fast food chain announced that they will be rolling out eco-friendly packaging to over 36,000 stores worldwide throughout 2016. This is all starting this month and wil include fountain drink cups, sandwich boxes, carry-out bags and more. The new packaging is fiber-based and will be sourced from recycled materials by 2020.

Matt Biespiel, senior director of Global Marketing says in a press release, “We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and initiatives like this are important to our customers who care about the planet.”

The stock is down 1.12% or $1.33 following the news, hitting $117.07 per share. Approximately 2.71M shares traded hands. MCD shares have risen 22.67% since June 3, 2015 and are currently uptrending. It has outperformed the S&P500 by 27.36%.
