While the music industry continues to change the way in which content is consumed, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) recently took a plunge into the music subscription business themselves. Approximately six months ago the Cupertino-based tech giant launched Apple Music. Today we get word from FT.com, who spoke with an Apple insider, that in this short time frame the company has managed to attract a staggering 10 million subscribers.
The service is now available in 100 countries and has grown from just 6.5 million subscriber back in October. When one considers it took Spotify eight years to reach their first 10 million subscribers, this is certainly a major accomplishment for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), and goes to show how strong their branding and promotion power has become over the years. It will be very interesting to see if this growth continues or begins to slow over the coming quarters, but I think it’s safe to say that Apple Music is already a major success.
The stock increased 0.53% or $0.51 during the last trading session, hitting $96.96. About 112,573 shares traded hands. AAPL has declined 24.63% since June 5, 2015 and is downtrending. It has underperformed the S&P500 by 19.94%.

BMO Capital Markets has a “Outperform” rating and a $145 price target on shares. Finally, UBS maintained the stock with a “Buy” rating in a report they issued on a December 16.
