Today, social media, particularly from Trump supporters and Donald Trump himself, are buzzing over a photograph that comedian Kathy Griffin published.  This photo depicted Griffin holding a phony decapitated Donald Trump head.

“Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself,” Trump tweeted this morning.  “My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”

While some people got a kick out of the joke, Democrats and Republicans alike were mostly taken aback by the act, and Griffin herself even admitted that she crossed the line.

“I went way too far,” Griffin said. “The image is too disturbing, I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my career, I will continue to. I ask for your forgiveness.”

While Donald Trump has every right to be upset — after all it was a replica of his own head — I have my doubts that Barron Trump actually saw the photo, like the President claims. However, we must turn back the clock to September 17, 2016 during one of Trump’s campaign rallies. During that rally he touched on the Second Amendment and he alleged that Hillary Clinton wanted to destroy the Second Amendment. In doing so, he indirectly suggested what some people say encouraged assassination attempts on Clinton.

“I think what we should do is…. she goes around with armed body guards like you’ve never seen before. I think that her body guards should drop all weapons. They should disarm,” Trump exclaimed during his campaign rally in September. “I think that they should disarm immediately. TAKE THEIR GUNS AWAY! She doesn’t want guns. Let’s see what happens to her. Take their guns away.”

Now, perhaps he didn’t hold up a mock head of Hillary Clinton when he said this, but he did suggest that we should stop protecting Clinton, and indirectly suggested that we should instead allow anyone who wants to cause her harm, be given the opportunity to do so. This is equally as bad, if not worse than what he is criticizing Kathy Griffin for today. Check out the video below.
