Special counsel Robert Mueller was a fair appointee to look into possible Trump campaign ties to Russia, right? That’s at least how it seemed when Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller as the special counsel for the US DOJ on May 17. Most felt as though the decision was a non-partisan one, one which was supported by Republicans and Democrats alike.
However, when Trump is involved, crazy is sure to ensue, and since his inauguration the majority of the Republican party has seemingly joined in on the craziness. Apparently many within the party now want Mueller ousted as the special counsel for the investigation, mostly because rumors are swirling that Trump wants Mueller fired — or at least that it would be in his best interest to do so.
Some may call it crazy, while others may call it hypocrisy, but what we are seeing within the Republican party certainly can’t be deemed normal. A shining example of this is the way that former Speaker of the House and Trump supporter Newt Gingrich is acting.
Back on May 17, when Mueller was appointed Special Counsel, Gingrich tweeted:
“Robert Mueller is superb choice to be special counsel. His reputation is impeccable for honesty and integrity. Media should now calm down.”
This tweet was reported by NBC’s Katy Tur, but has apparently been deleted by Gingrich since then. This is significant because just yesterday Gingrich completely changed his opinion and tweeted:
“Republicans are delusional if they think the special counsel is going to be fair. Look who he is hiring. Check fec reports. Time to rethink”
Yes, you did just read two separate tweets from the same man (Gingrich), saying exactly the opposite of one another within less than a month of each other.
It’s one thing to support Trump, but another to be hypocritical of everything that may implicate him of a crime. It’s time for the Republican party to stand up and say, “enough is enough!”. We need the truth… America needs the truth.
