The former CEO of ExxonMobil and current Secretary of State under the Trump White House has reportedly blown up at senior White House Staff this last week. Tillerson is apparently upset over a number of shortcomings of the White House and wants something done about them immediately.
The episode took place in Chief Of Staff Reince Priebus’ office within the White House, and among those getting chewed out by the Secretary of State were Johnny DeStefano, the head of the presidential personnel office, Senior Adviser Jared Kushner and Priebus himself.
Rex Tillerson, who is normally a quiet, yet affirmative figure, lashed out particularly hard about the White House’s lack of speed in nominating the individuals he recommended for senior State Department posts. Tillerson accused the White House of torpedoing his nominees, and expressed doubt in the individuals that the White House keeps trying to push on him for such posts.
Even more shocking, Tillerson criticized the White House itself for leaking damaging information about him to the press. Those who were in or around the meeting appeared to be shocked, with Jared Kushner reportedly approaching Margaret Peterlin, Tillerson’s Chief of Staff, and saying that the whole event was ‘unproffessional’.
Tillerson was promised by President Trump himself that he would have complete control over the department, but it appears as if the White House keeps trying to push their own people into key positions within the State Department, while leaving it understaffed in the mean time. This, along with the allegations that the White House is leaking negative information about the Secretary of State to the Press, certainly isn’t going over well with Mr. Tillerson.
