When President Trump was elected to be the 45th President of the United States, the first thought that popped into many people’s heads was, “What will the first meeting between Trump and Putin be like?”
Well now we have an answer. This morning, prior to the official start of the G20 Summit in Germany, President Trump was caught on camera by the German media as he approached Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time. The meeting, which can be seen below, shows the two men embracing each other as if they were longtime friends or business partners. As you can see, President Trump approaches Putin, who is standing in a corner behind a high-top table. He extends his arm, as a smiling Putin returns the favor. Trump embraces Putin’s hand, but unlike many of his other handshakes where he has pulled his counterpart in toward his body, this handshake was much more gentle in nature. Rather than pulling Putin toward his body as if saying, “I own you”, Trump instead just gave Putin a few taps on his elbow. A little while later, the video cuts to a clip of Trump patting Putin on the back.

Of course a lot can be made about the body language here, but in reality we do not know what words were exchanged. Keep in mind that Trump is also scheduled to have a closed door meeting with Putin later today. Stay tuned!
