President Trump, just moments ago announced via Twitter that his new Chief of Staff will be former General, and current Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly. The announcement was made in two tweets just before 5PM EST. This also means that Reince Priebus was either fired or stepped down from the position.
“I am pleased to inform you that I have just named General/Secretary John F Kelly as White House Chief of Staff. He is a Great American and a Great Leader. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security. He has been a true star of my Administration,” the President wrote.
For the last two days speculation had circulated that Priebus had lost all influence and respect within the White House. Trump’s Communications Director, Anthony Scaramucci even called Priebus a felon, claiming that he was the source of recent White House leaks. Trump went on to thank Priebus for his service, moments after making the announcement:
“I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country. We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!”
A Statement from the White House on this move has yet to come.
