While even if President Trump was to resign or somehow convince the Republican majority in the House of Representatives to impeach him, it likely would be months before any such actions are taken. That didn’t stop one of the President’s biggest critics, Maxine Waters, from making quite an interesting claim last night via Twitter.
“Mike Pence is somewhere planning an inauguration. Priebus and Spicer will lead the transition,” Waters tweeted at 10:14 PM.
The 78-year-old Democratic Congresswoman from California’s 43rd district has been one of the more outspoken critics of the President over the last several months. In fact, she even claimed that the salacious sex acts alleged in the Russian blackmail dossier against President Trump were “absolutely true”.
These latest remarks, although seemingly part joking, indicate that Waters will continue her assault on the President’s integrity, even if it means putting her own reputation on the line. While it is possible that Mike Pence is planning an inauguration out in his mind, once Trump resigns or is forced out by impeachment, the likelihood that he actually has gone as far as to consider transition officials, or even mention such plans to others within the White House, is a stretch.
Mrs. Waters is one of three Democrats who have called for the President’s impeachment, with the other two, Al Green and Brad Sherman, actually filing the first impeachment articles against the President back on July 12.
So should we be preparing ourselves for President Mike Pence to take office any time soon? Probably not. However, in the long run it’s certainly a possibility, provided that Pence himself is not wrapped up in some larger conspiracy himself.
