While President Trump seems to have an infatuation with Twitter, tweeting practically every day, often 5, 10 or 15 times during the day, Twitter seems to be
one of his biggest enemies this evening. Following an impromptu press conference late this afternoon in which the President once again seemed to shift blame for the violence this weekend in Charlottesville from white supremacists and Nazis to what he says was “many sides,” outrage was heard by Democrats and Republicans alike.
While political pundits and politicians on both the right and the left spoke out to criticize President Trump’s remarks this afternoon, David Duke, Richard Spencer and other well known white supremacists gave the President praise. Meanwhile, the hashtag #ImpeachTrump shot up to become the #1 trend on Twitter worldwide. According to Twitter, there were close to 60,000 tweets with that hashtag used within a short period of time, and as we publish this story it’s still the top trending phrase/hashtag on the entire social network.
