On Monday the world learned that former Trump campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was not only told that he was going to be indicted by investigators, but that the FBI had surveilled him during and prior to his work for the campaign. This, in and of itself, is quite damning to the President, as it shows that he had, at that very least, hired a man likely in the midst of committing numerous felonies.
Late last night, an additional report came to us from CBS News, indicating that the information obtained by the FBI, now in the possession of Robert Mueller’s team of prosecutors and investigators, includes conversations between Manafort and Russian officials. These conversations reportedly took place during the 2016 campaign for President.
CBS News was able to speak with a former US official under the condition of anonymity. This official told them specifically that the intercepts picked up conversations between Manafort and Russian individuals about the campaign. The individual also stated that the intercepts potentially include conversations between Manafort and the President himself.
While there has been no indication that Trump himself is being zeroed in on by Mueller’s team, the likelihood that Manafort was communicating with a hostile foreign power about Trump’s campaign without Trump at least knowing about it, seems like a long shot.
Leaks, which seem to be released in a controlled manner, have been trickling out from the Mueller investigation for several weeks now. It will be interesting to see what may be headed our way next. Let’s hear your thoughts on this breaking story in the comments section below.
