By now you are all likely aware that President Trump likes to attack his political foes on Twitter. In fact he seems to attack American companies and individuals on Twitter almost as much as he takes weekend vacations at his own golf course. This morning’s tweet however, was a bit out of the ordinary because it was a fellow Republican that he aired his grievances with:
“Senator Bob Corker “begged” me to endorse him for re-election in Tennessee. I said “NO” and he dropped out (said he could not win without my endorsement). He also wanted to be Secretary of State, I said “NO THANKS.” He is also largely responsible for the horrendous Iran Deal! Hence, I would fully expect Corker to be a negative voice and stand in the way of our great agenda. Didn’t have the guts to run!” Trump tweeted this morning.
Corker, a ten year veteran of the US Senate, representing the people of Tennessee, responded quickly and decisively to Trump’s tweet in a way that has surprised pretty much everyone, regardless of their political affiliation.
“It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning,” Corker tweeted just moments ago.
The attack, unexpected, even though Trump initiated the feud, has already garnered over 55,000 retweets and 135,000 likes since it was posted just before noon Eastern time. Corker’s attack on the President marks one of the few which have been expressed by a member of Trump’s own party, and could open the door for other Republicans in the House and the Senate to speak out.
Corker’s tweet was particularly harsh in that it compared the President to someone in a nursing home, suggesting that he is not totally with it from a mental standpoint.
