Alphabet Inc’s Google (GOOG) Begins Indexing HTTPS URLs by Default

Today ” Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Google announced that they have begun to index HTTPS URLs by default. This means that if both an HTTP and HTTPS (the secured version of the url) are both available, they will automatically choose to index only the HTTPS version. This is the case even if inbound links point mainly or only to the HTTP version of the url. According to Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) this is the next step in their “HTTPS everywhere” initiative.

“Browsing the web should be a private experience between the user and the website, and must not be subject to eavesdropping, man-in-the-middle attacks, or data modification,” stated Google’s Zineb Ait Bahajji. “This is why we’ve been strongly promoting HTTPS everywhere. The stock is down 0.84% or $6.31 following the news, hitting $743.12 per share. Approximately 1.50 million shares traded hands. GOOG shares have risen 40.38% since May 15, 2015 and are currently uptrending. It has outperformed the S&P500 by 42.65%.

Piper Jaffray maintained GOOG stock in a recent report from October 23 with a “Overweight” rating. Pacific Crest maintained the rating on October 23. Pacific Crest has a “Overweight” rating and a $820 price target on shares. Finally, Credit Suisse maintained the stock with a “Outperform” rating in a report they issued on an October 23.
