For those who say innovation is a thing of the past for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), you may want to think again. The company is reportedly working on integrating Li-Fi technology into a future device; perhaps even the iPhone 7.

According to reports coming to us from BusinessInsider, the Cupertino-based company could one day integrate what some would call ‘Wi-Fi on steroids’ into their products, enabling data transfer that’s up to 100 times faster than Wi-Fi allows for. Invented by a Edinburgh researcher, Harald Haas, Li-Fi is able to transfer data at approximately 224 gigabits every second. While Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) likely wouldn’t be able to use the technology for direct data transfer from a router, since no router uses Li-Fi quite yet, they could use the technology, which relies on light spectrum, to enable phone-to-phone or phone-to-Apple TV communication.
