Tesla has blown the cover off of traditional automobile manufacturing. Their Model S has taken automobile technology to the next level as the company has been firing on all cylinders (or I mean all batteries), receiving reviews and ratings which have shattered records while presenting performance specs which have made even some of the the most advanced vehicles pale in comparison.
After months of waiting, the next vehicle from the Palo Alto-based electric vehicle manufacturer is finally here! Yesterday officially marked the release of the Tesla Model X, a vehicle which could transform the way we view the SUV/Crossover segment of the market.
“The mission of Tesla is to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the car’s reveal, which was held at the company’s Fremont, California factory. “It’s important to know that any kind of car can go electric.”
The vehicle is truly revolutionary, being that it’s the first ever electrically-powered SUV, and simply a joy to look at. With a somewhat similar, but more rugged appearance than the Model S, the Model X also features much of the same technology under its hood. Able to achieve a 250 mile range per charge, with the ability to fully recharge in just 30 minutes at any Tesla Charging Station, range anxiety should not be a major issue for those purchasing this vehicle.
The vehicle can seat up to seven people and still have room for luggage, and dependent on the exact version one purchases, will either have the ability to go from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds (Ludicrous mode for the P90D Signature model), or 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds for the 90D base model. While the 90D model features a 259 horsepower front and rear motor, the P90D version steps things up quite a bit with a 503 horsepower rear motor along with the 259 horsepower front motor, providing almost unbelievable performance.
Dependent on the exact Model X you will be purchasing, the price will range from $80,000 all the way on up to $140,000 for the Signature model with Ludicrous mode. Just a handful of the features present in both versions of the Model X are listed below:
- 8 year, infinite mile battery and drive unit warranty
- Automatic emergency braking
- Falcon Wing rear doors
- Automatically deploying rear spoiler
- Full size rear cargo storage
- Free long distance travel on Tesla’s expanding Supercharger network
- GPS enabled Homelink
- Maps as well as navigation with real time traffic updates
- Heated side mirrors
- Front trunk
- Blind spot and side collision warnings
- Parking Sensors
- Four LATCH child seat attachments, two in each passenger row
As an added bonus for those fearful of an apocalyptical chemical weapons attack, the Model X has a special “bioweapon defense mode” which utilizes special air-filtering technology to keep those in the vehicle safe.
The Model X has been designed so that it can be upgraded along with the Model S whenever new updates come about, allowing for Tesla to streamline the process over most of their vehicles. While this SUV certainly is not for everyone, if you have the money it seems like the Model X is an incredible vehicle bound to receive amazing reviews in the months to come.
