Iris Gill loves CVS. Her mom says she sees it as “a dreamland of snacks, chocolate milk, and toys.”
Sarah Fortune Gill noticed he daughter’s passion start to build about two years ago, when construction of the first CVS pharmacy in her home town of Fayetteville, AK, began.
In a post on her blog, Gill she says, “The site happens to be directly on our path to Iris’ school, so we drive past the location at least twice a day. Being that she was only three when it opened, she watched the progress of the structure being built for nearly half of her life, so naturally it was a big deal when the store finally opened.”
She adds, “I’m more of a Target girl myself, so Iris is CVS-loyal all on her own.”
As Iris’ fourth birthday approached, her mom thought about some of the usual party theme choices for a girl that age: “Frozen,” “Star Wars” and “Hello Kitty”. But when she asked Iris what she wanted, the answer really didn’t surprise her: “CVS”.
“I didn’t quite think she was serious at first,” Gill recalls, “so I asked her a few more times and, turns out, she was set on it. Once I realized Iris was for real, I started to get creative with it as much as I could, which was tough because there literally was nothing to Google or search on Pinterest”
But she managed to do a great job of pulling it all together.
“When your kid puts CVS on the same level as [Disney World], you embrace it,” Gill says. “When they ask for a CVS birthday party, you throw it.”
So all of the decorations were red and white and pharmacy-related, and of course there was a CVS-themed cake.
Goody bags for kids were filled with store items like bandages and Chapstick. The grown-ups were given their own special treats – Tic Tacs in prescription bottles and cranberry vodka splash (CVS) to drink.
When CVS headquarters heard about the party, they sent over some treats to help with the celebration.
Gill’s favorite part was that their local store even posted a birthday message for Iris:
“One day it won’t be so simple to make her happy,” Gill wrote, “so for now I take her to CVS when we have a few extra minutes to spare and try my best to make her birthday party special, as tricky as it may be.”
Happy Birthday, Iris!
