The majority of you reading this probably have some sort of mild arachnophobia. For those of you who haven’t seen the 1990 horror film and don’t know what arachnophobia is, it’s the fear of spiders and other arachnids such as scorpions.
While a fear of spiders plague many of us, for some individuals, the very thought of a spider can be the ingredients of a nightmare. This certainly seemed to be the case for one Syracuse, Indiana woman on Friday afternoon.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, 35-year-old Angela Kipp was pulling out of her driveway when a spider revealed itself to her by crawling onto her shoulder. Her fear of the creature caused her to jump completely out of the vehicle as it rolled backwards, in the process leaving her 9-year-old son in the back seat.
According to authorities, the boy climbed into the front seat trying to bring the vehicle to a halt by pressing the brake pedal, and in doing so, accidentally press the gas pedal, causing the car to accelerate. This caused the vehicle to back into a Wawasee School Bus as it moved at a decent rate of speed.
While the boy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the school bus was empty besides its driver, who escaped the accident unharmed. As you can see from the images above, the vehicle suffered quite a bit of damage. Meanwhile the accident is still under investigation by authorities.
While I have certainly myself jumped more than a few times at the appearance of a spider, I would like to think that I’d at least stay in my car should a spider pop out while it’s moving. Although we don’t have all the details on the circumstances of this seemingly ridiculous event, it certainly seems that this woman may need to get her priorities straight, or at least do a thorough check of her vehicle for insects prior to driving with her son once again.
