Remember a couple of weeks ago when the virtual reality community was up in arms over the fact that those individuals who pre-ordered any one of the Amazon Oculus Rift/PC bundles were led to believe that they could receive their headset several weeks prior to some of the individuals who had pre-ordered the Rift headset within minutes of it’s debut last month? Well, it appears as if many of these people may also have to face their fair share of delays as well, as today is the day in which Amazon claimed Rift Bundle pre-orders would commence shipping. However, there are already several reports from those who placed an order recently, that those orders may not be shipped until sometime next month.
For weeks Amazon.com’s website had offered numerous Rift bundles, including the Alienware Area 51 Bundle, Alienware X51 R3 i5 8GB or 16GB Bundle, ASUS G11CD-WS51 Bundle, and Dell XPS 8900 bundle, all with release dates of April 23 (today). While many gamers took that date to mean that those products would in fact ship then, judging from emails received from Amazon and phone calls made to customer support, this will simply be the date in which the very first orders (those made as far back as February) will begin shipping out. Meanwhile, the stock is limited and it appears as if those who have recently ordered any one of these bundles may have a long wait ahead. In fact, each of these bundles now state ‘Temporarily Out of Stock’ or “Currently Unavailable’ on their Amazon sales page.
While reports on the Oculus Reddit page seem to indicate that customers who had pre-ordered their bundle in late February, well in advance of the late March launch, may in fact receive their bundle this coming week, those who had pre-ordered a bundle in March or April may have to wait.
“Just got an email that it will be delivered 4/26. Ordered Feb 24,” explained one happy Redditor.
“I have ‘preparing to ship’ and a pending charge on my credit card. ASUS G11CD-WS51, ordered Feb 16 at 8:05am PST,” wrote another happy camper.
It doesn’t appear to be all sunshine and rose though, and I’m sure there will be more pissed off customers heard from over the coming weeks ahead.
“Looks like I was too late, even though I was able to pre-order,” explained a somewhat impatient customer. “My status was showing as ‘Not yet shipped’. I gave them a call, then I got an email update with the following: ‘Unfortunately, we don’t have any more stock of Oculus Rift + ASUS Oculus Ready G11CD-WS51 Desktop PC Bundle right now, and we’re not sure when we’ll be able to get more.'”
While it was a gamble to cancel one’s original Oculus Rift pre-order and switch over to an Amazon bundle pre-order, like some impatient individuals decided to do, it appears as if the gamble may not pay off as greatly as some had hoped. With that said, there is already another alternate solution if one is willing to take yet another gamble. BestBuy is offering Rift bundles, which they say will begin shipping out on the 27th of this month. Whether they too may have limited stock, we just dont know.
