Without a doubt ones of the biggest gaming franchises in history is that of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto. The game is simply put, a blockbuster, and usually several years prior to the release of the next edition, rumors begin to emerge, some accurate, some fantasy. With that said, this week we get new rumors of what may be included in Rockstar’s next version of the game GTA VI.
According to sources close to the company, Grand Theft Auto VI will likely debut in 2019 or 2020 and have full virtual reality compatibility. If this is the case, which we, as a VR news organization certainly hopes, VR gaming will have taken a major step in the right direction. Imagine fully immersing oneself in the world of GTA; racing, flying, prostitutes and more.
“We’ve got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do,” according to Rockstar president Leslie Benzies, “We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas.”
In addition to the virtual reality layer that would have to be developed with the game, some other rumors are indicating that GTA VI may in fact include even more weapon choices, not that the previous versions of the game lacked in that department. Also Rockstar may increase the number of missions which rely on the sky rather than land, as gamers seem to have taken a liking to the flight aspects of GTA.
Another possibility is that Rockstar may allow gamers to explore a much larger world. Some rumors and comments from the company have suggested that GTA VI could include all the cities from the previous versions of the game rolled up into one giant world for gamers to explore. With all of this said, it will be quite difficult for developers to figure out a way to overcome the confines of the various video game consoles in order to pack all of these worlds into a single game, therefore my guess is that such a massive world, like mentioned above, will have to wait for GTA VII perhaps.
Whether these rumors have truth behind them or not, who knows? But certainly VR will be a major area for developers to explore over the next couple of years and any GTA VR game would be a boon for the virtual reality space in general. Let’s hear your thoughts on these rumors in the GTA VI Virtual Reality forum thread on VRTalk.com.
