Thanks in part to a number of new 360-degree camera releases, one of the more interesting additions to Youtube recently has been the influx of high-quality 360-degree video content.  While it’s only a matter of time before all such videos will be viewable with VR headsets, already a large portions of such content can be viewed in a stereoscopic format on Google Cardboard headsets.  After a slow start now there is really is a remarkable selection of 360-degree available for free on YouTube. Below I have decided to curate a list of six must-watch 360-degree videos.  Whether you view them with a VR headset or not, each of these videos certainly should be shared with friends as they are quite phenomenal, and show off the capability of this fairly new video format.

#1 – Close Up of a Powerful Tornado
The tornado, captured in 360-degree video, was recorded just yesterday on a highway in Wray, Colorado. While no deaths have been reported, there were 5 injuries from this monstrous storm, and lots of downed power lines. The video takes you on an 8-minute chase of this incredibly tornado as you can see debris circulating around the storm. This is the only 360-degree video I have seen pertaining to a tornado of this power.

#2 – Landing of a Rocket By SpaceX
It’s not everyday that the first stage of a rocket lands on a drone ship in the middle of the Atlantic. In fact, it’s only been done twice by SpaceX. With that said, the company, founded by Elon Musk, was able to capture this landing in 360-degrees, and it’s quite incredibly.

#3 – Shark Shipwreck
Thanks to the MythBusters this sunken wreckage of the Ray of Hope is also filmed in a high-definition 360-degree format for virtual reality viewing. The video, which is just over four minutes long, is quite immersive and really does make one feel as if they are exploring the depths of the sea.

#4 – Paranormal Activity Scene in VR
This is an oldie but a goodie. Uploaded in December of last year, this Paranormal Activity scene allows viewers to look in any direction while the story plays out. I won’t ruin the surprises, but there is a lot going on so be sure to watch the video a few times from different angles.

#5 – The Jungle Book 360-Degrees
Here’s another fairly new 360-degree experience. It was uploaded as a way to further market the latest film, and I have to say it’s quite impressive, although short. This 93-second clip will likely make you wish that the entire film was viewable in this format.
