A “floating city” has been spotted in the skies above China. Thousands in the Jiangxi and Foshan regions saw what appeared to be skyscrapers popping out from the clouds.
The ghostly vision lasted only a few minutes, but that was long enough to alarm and confuse local residents. And there’s no shortage of ideas as to what it was.
Conspiracy theorists had a field day. Many said it was related to “Project Blue Beam”, a secret project by which NASA plans to create a New World Order by simulating the second coming of Christ through holograms.
“This is the Project Blue Beam by NASA preparing their mind control over the sheep people. Wake up and smell the roses,” one person commented online.
And then there are those who suspect the phenomenon is not of this world.
“I believe it’s the work of the Grays [aliens]. They probably teleported a giant city or maybe reflected it from their own dimension,” wrote another user.
But scientists have a simpler, if less exciting, explanation. It was a Fata Morgana. That’s a type of mirage that distorts distant objects. It can occur over land or sea and happens when the sun heats up the atmosphere above, causing a gradient of temperatures. In other words, air close to the surface is relatively cool compared to the layers above. When light hits a boundary between two layers that are different temperatures – and as a result different densities – it bends and travels at a different angle.
Our brains assume that light travels in a straight line. So when it doesn’t, we interpret an object we see as being where it would be if the light’s path was straight. In the case of the sightings in China, light reflected from the skyline was bent downward as it passed through the colder, denser air. That’s why the skyscrapers appeared to be much higher in the air then they actually were.
A similar event occurred in the county’s skies during 2011. What seemed to be a giant floating city was merely a meteorological phenomenon, easily understood. But those who see sinister forces at work will not be appeased by simple statements of fact.
Consider this interpretation from the Paranormal Crucible channel on YouTube:
“It is also possible, considering China’s technological achievements that a top secret holographic technology was tested over a heavily populated area in an effort to gauge the public reaction.”
Here’s the video. Judge for yourself…
