#FireHannity: Is this the end for Sean Hannity?

Share

Back in May, we published an article which provided a list of Sean Hannity’s sponsors, after he had tried spreading a conspiracy theory related to murdered DNC employee named Seth Rich on the Fox News Network. The debunked conspiracy theory is now part of a lawsuit against Fox News — a lawsuit which alleges President Trump was a co-conspirator in creating the fabricated story as well.

Not surprisingly, after the article went live, several key sponsors of Hannity dropped out. However, many still remain, and today on Social Media, after Hannity spread apparent lies about Special Counsel Robert Mueller last night, a movement has formed. That movement is utilizing the hashtag #FireHannity on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media websites. The goal? It’s a simple one, to encourage Fox News to fire Hannity, or at the very least, encourage his sponsors to drop their backing for the right-winged commentator.

One of the co-founders of the Democratic Coalition, Scott Dworkin has been leading the charge, with a tweet thread that includes all of Sean Hannity’s sponsors. There has even been a Google Spreadsheet setup to allow people to individually tweet messages to Hannity’s remaining sponsors, or if they choose, boycott them altogether. Additionally, there is a website called FireHannity.org, created by the Democratic Coalition, which provides this same list in an easier to read format. According to the spreadsheet and website, the following companies remain sponsors of Hannity’s show:

Alfa Romeo, Allstate, Angie’s List, AstraZeneca, Bayer, Blink Health, Booking.com, Capital One, Consumer Cellular, DirecTV, ExxonMobil, Harvest Right, Hewlett Packard Enterprises, Hisamitsu Pharmaceuticals, Hulu, John Deere, Liberty Mutual, LoanDepot, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nutrisystem, Optum, PC Matic, ProFlowers, Publishers Clearing House, Sandals, Shari’s Berries, Terminix, UNTUCKit, Vanda Pharmaceutical, AC Pro, Allergan, American Petroleum, Amerifit, Armorall, AT&T, Athene, Atkins, Audi, Australian Dream, Avis, BASF, Bass Pro Shops, Bath Fitter, Bausch + Lomb, Beaches Resorts, Blue-Emu, Bounty, CA Technologies, Cascade, Centrum, CenturyLink, Chamonix, Charles Tyrwhitt, Charmin, Chattem, Cialis, ClearChoice, Comedy Central, Donald J. Trump for President, DR Power Equipment, Dr. Scholl’s, Duracell, Ebates, eHarmony, Eli Lilly and Company, Expedia, Fabletics, Ferndale Healthcare, Fixodent, Freshpet, Geico, Gilead Sciences, GlaxoSmithKline, GoDaddy, Grasshopper, HomeAdvisor, HomeLight, HomeToGo.com, IBM, Indeed, Intel, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jardiance, Joseph A. Bank, JustFab, Kerasal, Kia, Kingdom, LaQuinta, LendingTree, Lexus, magicJack, Marie Callender, Matrress Firm, Men’s Wearhouse, Microsoft, Miracle-Ear, My Pillow, Nissan, Novartis, NRA Foundation, Orkin Man, Oscar Mayer, OurTime, Panera Bread, Pfizer, Phazyme Gas and Acid, Preen, Principal, Quincy Bioscience, Quten IP Holdings, Raid, Reddi Wip, Reelz, RockAuto, Safelite, Sea-Bond, ServPro, Scotts, Sirius XM, Sleep Number, SoClean, Stanley Steemer, SteinMart, Subaru, SuperBeets, Super Beta Prostate, Swiffer, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Tempur-Pedic, TruStage, United Mileage Plus Experts, USAA, Varidesk, Venus, Visiting Angels, Vistaprint, Wagner OEX, Wax-Rx, WeatherTech, ZeroWater.

It’s interesting that those on the right were so critical of CNN when they ran a story that they later retracted due to the lack of a solid source, yet they seem to have no problem with Sean Hannity, who night after night spreads false stories and debunked conspiracy theories, like the false Seth Rich story line. Earlier today, John Schindler of the Observer published a story which shows that Fox News frequently colludes with the White House in order to embrace and distribute disinformation. While President Trump calls broadcast networks such as CNN, MSNBC and others “FAKE news”, he embraces the conspiracy theories put forth by Sean Hannity and Fox News on an almost nightly basis.

Will social media be enough to encourage Fox to dump Hannity, or at the very least persuade some of the sponsors listed above to quit supporting him?  Only time will tell.
