In this day and age we are all too used to having our electronics, particularly our smartphones work without error. Every now and then, however, things don’t work as planned. For Apple users today certainly isn’t a fun one, especially if you are an avid user of their iTunes platform or App Store.
As of 3:50 PM EDT users, as well as Apple themselves, are reporting problems with the iTunes store and the App Store. The outage which began at around 12:30 PM EDT continues as Apple techs work diligently to rectify the situation.
Apple currently claims that they are thoroughly investigating the issues at hand and that they “will update the status as more information becomes available.”
While there are a number of people complaining on the various social media platforms over the last few hours, it seems like the problem may be confined to only a small fraction of Apple users. Those affected by the glitch seem to be unable to access either the iTunes store or the iOS App Store or download any content on either.
“Users are experiencing a problem with the service listed above, states the Apple System Status Page,” referring to the iTunes Store. “We are investigating and will update the status as more information becomes available.”
Yesterday there was a less widespread issue which also caused the outage of both stores, and it was eventually resolved later in the day. This outage, however, seems more severe and widespread. The issues do not seem to be limited to any one geographic location, with reports on Twitter and Reddit coming from users in Europe, Asia, and America.
While, this isn’t a cause for alarm for Apple shareholders, it is important to realize that iTunes, the App Store other software and services offered by the company account for around $5 billion in revenue each quarter, and this number has grown each of the last four quarters for the company.
